An exercise in deductive tasting, all levels are welcome. Each session we present a theme, and focus our tasting and theory work accordingly. Event led by Master Sommelier Nick Davis.
Few regions of Italy have such a variety of unique grape varieties as Piedmont in the northwest. Well over a dozen “autochthonous” grapes can be found, many which are not grown elsewhere in the country. In this session, we will strive to try as many as possible!
Here is a list of the grapes grown in Piedmont, of which we will explore a sample:
Common Red Styles: Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto
Uncommon Red Styles: Freisa, Grignolino, Vespolina, Croatina, Ruchè, Pelaverga (Cari)
Rare Red Styles: Doux d’Henry, Gamba Rossa, Bonarda Novarese, Bubbierasco, Neretto, Chatus, Avanà, Avarengo
White Styles: Arneis, Nascetta, Erbaluce, Arneis, Timorasso, Riesling, Favorita, Cortese, Rossese Bianco, Bussanello
